Dear Friend of the Felt Estate,
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Friends of the Felt Estate and Felt Estate Restoration Project. You, through your financial contribution to Friends of the Felt Estate, make our work possible. Thank you for your continued encouragement through financial support!
In the past six years, our project has received awards and recognition from the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society, the Michigan Historic Preservation Network, and the U.S. Green Building Council. Our project was a case study in the National Trust for Historic Places Forum magazine, and merited a “best practices” link on the National Park Service’s website featuring sites on the National Register of Historic Places.
We have accomplished so much in the past few years. Here are just a few highlights: We completed our restoration of The Chapel at Shore Acres, and it is being used often for wedding ceremonies. And, after 9 years, we at last signed a 99-year lease for 15 acres east of the mansion – land that includes the original farm buildings known as Shore Acres Farm. We began restoration of the carriage house this year.
We have great plans for 2014! With the addition of the original farm buildings we start another phase of our restoration. This year we applied for several grants through the Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund. We are waiting for the grant determination. All grants require matching money — so your contribution is more important than ever to the success of our restoration efforts.
We have so many outstanding projects happening and your funds are crucial to the continued success of our award-winning community project.
A membership renewal form is on the back of this letter. Thank you, in advance, for your part in our restoration.
I still believe preservation is, and always should be, more about people than places. Love well, laugh often, and restore one another. Life is a restoration project.
