The Chapel at Shore Acres (formerly known as "Gibson Church") was built over 100 years ago in the small community of Gibson, about two miles from the Felt Estate.
The Chapel is built in the simple vernacular style of the "old white country church" - and still has all of its original windows and floors. The refinished pews will hold 85-100 people. Placed in the serene setting of Shore Acres Park, the church will be a beautiful venue for weddings, services, and other events.
In April 2011, the Friends of the Felt Estate purchased the structure and moved it to Shore Acres Park to save it from demolition and neglect. Also - the church has a tie to the estate. In 1927, Dorr Felt refurbished the church - providing new paint for the interior and exterior - for his daughter Dorothea's wedding.
We are now in the process of restoring the Chapel, repainting the interior and exterior, refurbishing the pews, and installing new electrical services.
